French Cheese Specialties

For centuries, cheese has been cherished by people of every possible heritage. Just remember General Charles de Gaulle, who told Winston Churchill: "A country that features 200 different types of cheese cannot be in bad health." Only a short time later he he was outraged that "a people that has over 325 cheese varieties is ungovernable". This number should also be too small.

Looking back in history, we can say that Christianization led to the establishment of monasteries, and in many monasteries the ancient art of making special cheeses played an important role; another reason for why so many AOC cheeses come from France.
